In recent years, fast food chains have been going out of their way to make sure that they offer something for everybody, be it fresh salads or antibiotic-free chicken or Mac n' Cheetos. But what about for dogs? You might be surprised to learn that plenty of fast food chains have off-menu items for man’s best friend.
8 Secret Fast Food Menu Items for Your Dog (Slideshow)
As opposed to traditional sit-down restaurants, which strictly forbid dogs thanks to health department policies (service dogs are the exception), the fact that most fast food restaurants offer drive-thru service (and many also have outdoor seating) has opened up the window for some decidedly non-traditional menu items.
Aside from the chains that stock dog biscuits by the drive-thru window and a couple that keep specially formulated dog-friendly snacks around, the off-menu items for doggies are all just repurposed human food. So keep in mind that while ice cream may be offered for dogs, some dogs handle dairy better than others. Make sure you know what types of foods your pets can tolerate before you allow them to chow down on these; you might not want to feed your dog ice cream because it can make them sick..
So if you don’t want your dog to feel left out the next time he tags along when you head to the drive-thru, click here to learn which chains offer a little something special for Fido.
Lazy Dog Bacon Candy
If you like candy and you like bacon it’s a sure bet that you’ll go crazy over bacon candy. Although the basic recipe of sugaring raw bacon and baking it until crispy is not at all complicated or secret, the variations of this simple formula are numerous. My goal was to try as many techniques as I could to figure out what works best, and then customize the recipe to duplicate the incredible bacon candy you’ll find on the appetizer menu at the fast-growing 44-unit Lazy Dog chain.
Lazy Dog knows that really good bacon candy should be more than just sweet and salty, so chefs there sprinkle in some black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes to perk up the party. Thick cut bacon works best here, and you’ll need a rack for the bacon to rest on while it bakes so air can move around the slices. And do yourself a favor: line the baking sheet with foil for an easier cleanup of the inevitable greasy, sugary mess.
This Lazy Dog bacon candy recipe is great on its own as a small appetizer, sprinkled with fresh parsley and served upright in a cup, just like in the restaurant. Or you can use the Bacon Candy as a garnish in this amazing hack for Lazy Dog Crispy Deviled Eggs.

This recipe is available in
- 5 slices thick cut bacon, uncooked
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack in the pan. Arrange the bacon side-by-side on top of the rack.
3. Combine the brown sugar and peppers in a small bowl.
4. Sprinkle around half of the sugar on top of the bacon slices and gently pat it down with your fingers.
Let it sit for 5 minutes so that the sugar absorbs moisture and sticks to the bacon. Gently flip over each slice of bacon and sprinkle the sugar on the other side. Use up all the sugar.
5. Bake for 35 to 50 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy. Thicker bacon will take longer to cook. Allow the bacon to cool for 30 minutes, then sprinkle it with some minced fresh parsley and arrange the slices upright in a glass or cup to serve.

7 The Meatatarian Burger (Burger King)
This entry is ridiculous, alright: ridiculously awesome. One would imagine this meaty masterpiece resulted from enough people asking themselves: &ldquoAren&rsquot we sick of all this vegetarian bullshit?&rdquo&hellip then deciding that question need not be rhetorical.
Voila! In 2016, Burger King introduced its Meatatarian Range in New Zealand. The three-burger series consisted of the sumptuously suggestive Full Meaty, the could-go-either-way Half Meaty, and the goes-with-anything Bacon Meaty. As in other walks of life, the Full Meaty stood out the most: two beef patties, a chicken patty, six bacon strips, two slices of cheese, barbecue sauce and onions. The Half Meaty removes one of the beef patties, while the Bacon Meaty replaces both beef patties with an extra layer of chicken.
True to its stature as a backlash to vegetarianism and healthy food in general, the Meatatarian Range&rsquos calorie count was&hellip well, impossible to find. By listing it as a &ldquolimited time only&rdquo item, BK avoided mandatory nutritional transparency guidelines.
However, in 2005 Burger King introduced the uncreatively named Enormous Omelet Sandwich, featuring a two-egg omelet topped with two slices of American cheese, three strips of bacon, and a sausage patty on a hoagie-style bun. That work of artery-clogging art came in at 730 calories and 47 grams of fat, so it can be safety assumed that the Full Meaty eclipsed that by several inche&hellip um, calories.
By the means of an elaborate chemical mixing process, scientists at Sonic have found a way to make Sprite taste better and to make it purple. It has the sweet citrus flavor of the soda coupled with all the fruity deliciousness of other the drinks in the equation.
To get your hands on one, just ask for a Purple Sprite. If they don’t know what you’re talking about, it’s made by mixing a small amount of Powerade, lemonade, and cranberry juice into the standard Sprite to make it the best one you’ll ever taste.
20 KFC Double Down
The KFC Double Down almost seems like a joke, right? It's like someone said, "why use bread for a sandwich when you can just use more meat?" Apparently, though, someone took that thought to heart when they created this sandwich, which is packed with protein (and calories). Even if you've never tried one, you can actually make your own Double Down at home with this recipe from Serious Eats. Not only do you end up with a delicious sandwich, but you can also learn a thing or two about making great fried chicken.
The Pie McFlurry
People often argue about what’s the best topping for a McFlurry. They’re all wrong. As tantalizing as an Oreo McFlurry is, as classic as an M&M McFlurry is, and as irresistible as a Reeses McFlurry is, not one of them can beat the Pie McFlurry.
A slice of warm, soft, sweet pie is blended into the McFlurry ice cream, making the ultimate hot-cold combination of flavors. Give it a whirl and you’ll be hooked just like me.
Tips from McDonald’s Fans
Your secret menu is missing the round egg on any egg sandwich instead of the fake egg that they put on most of their sandwiches in the morning. This can be done at most locations and pretty much for free.
